or =2 for the thoracic or abdominal regions were included.;;During the study period, a total of 16,430 blunt trauma patients were admitted to one of the four trauma centers.stepintothearena A…1. Among these, the median Injury Severity Score was 24 (range: 4-75) and the in-hospital mortality rate was 11.0%.Jordan 11 There were 2,196 patients (82.5%) with thoracic injuries, 977 patients (36.7%) with abdominal injuries, and 520 patients (19.5%) with injuries to both regions. http://www.stepintothearena.co.uk A surgical intervention was undertaken in 76 patients with thoracic injuries (3.5%) and in 414 patients with abdominal injuries (42.3%). On average, 4.7 thoracic and 28.8 abdominal trauma procedures were performed per center, yearly. Each trauma surgeon performed, on average, less than one thoracic and less than five abdominal trauma procedures yearly.;;The incidence of blunt thoracic and abdominal injuries needing surgical intervention is low in Quebec tertiary trauma centers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan The competence of general surgeons in trauma-related procedures might be compromised by such low patient volume unless they frequently perform non-trauma surgical procedures. We think that in Quebec, trauma care must be provided by surgeons who practice both acute emergency and elective surgical care in addition to trauma care. These findings should have an important impact on the development of on-going education and resident training programs.
The current paper is the development of a peer education program addressing sexual assault, rape, and healthy relationships among adolescents. Jordan holgerson The paper explores the issue of sexual assault and rape including the history, current definitions, common reactions to victimization, and the prevalence among adolescents. In addition, the paper discusses risk factors associated with sexual violence perpetration and victimization. The paper also discusses the development of relationships with a particular emphasis on dating during adolescence and includes the components of healthy relationships.stepintothearena In light of the issues, peer education is presented as a method of prevention for adolescents. http://www.stepintothearena.co.uk The benefits and criticisms of peer education are reviewed and how the current program addresses the issues… are outlined. As part of the program, suggestions are made regarding the method and type of program evaluations to be utilized during the implementation of the program. The final component of the paper is the inclusion of a peer education program manual outlining the individual sessions of the program.
To determine whether exposure of the cornea and retina of rats to flashes from a commercial photographic flash lamp is phototoxic. Sprague–Dawley rats were exposed to 10, 100, or 1,000 flashes of the OPTICAM 16M photographic flash lamp (Fujikoeki, Japan) placed 0.1, 1, or 3 m from the eyes. http://www.stepintothearena.co.uk Corneal damage was assessed by a fluorescein staining score, Jordan belfort and the retinal damage by eletroretinography (ERG) and histology before and 24 h after exposure. Exposure of the eyes to 1,000 flashes at 0.1 m increased the fluorescein staining score significantly ( P = 0.009, the Mann–Whitney test). stepintothearena Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the cornea showed a detachment of the epithelial cells from the surface after this exposure. The amplitude of the a-wave was decreased significantly by 23.0% ( P = 0.026)… of the amplitude before the exposure, and the b-wave by 19.7% ( P = 0.0478) following 1,000 flashes at 0.1 m but not by the other exposures. TUNEL-positive cells were present in the outer nuclear layer only after the extreme exposure, but no significant decrease in retinal thickness was seen under any condition. The fluorescein staining score and ERGs recovered to control levels within 1 week. Light exposure to a photographic flash lamp does not induce damage to the cornea and retina except when they are exposed to 1,000 flashes at 0.1 m.
